Chemical peels are a popular cosmetic dermatology treatment. Offered by Keshea Stevenson MHS, PA-C and her professional team at Foothill Cosmetic Surgery Center, peels significantly improve skin tone, color, and texture. Would you like a new, refreshed look quickly?
What does a chemical peel involve?
A chemical peel involves a medical skin examination, a discussion of your skin goals and about 30 minutes of your time. Classified as superficial (lunchtime), medium and deep, chemical peels involve in-office application of various acid preparations. For example, a medium-depth peel employs trichloroacetic acid (TCA) which affects a total exfoliation of several skin layers. Afterwards, beautiful, smoother skin appears on the face, neck, and chest.
Your customized skin treatment plan depends on your expectations. Do you wish to:
- Eliminate sun and age spots
- Smooth wrinkles and fine lines
- Improve and tighten skin tone
- Remove acne scars
- Tighten large pores
- Increase collagen, the skin component responsible for youthful glow, plumpness, and elasticity
Chemical peels may help you achieve any or all of these goals safely and effectively. Additionally, the active ingredient in the peel may remove some pre-cancerous lesions known as actinic keratosis.
After your treatment...
We may schedule you for two more peels to maximize your results. In between, you'll experience some mild to moderate itching, puffiness, tenderness and redness. Apply a sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) daily. Healthline reports that keeping your skin cool, applying a gentle moisturizer daily, and avoiding makeup increases comfort and speeds healing.
Typically, medium to deep chemical peels take a couple of weeks to heal. The resulting redness, however, may take some months to resolve. Your doctor will inform you of what to expect, and of course, you should call Foothill Cosmetic Surgery Center with questions or concerns which could arise post-procedure.
