Find out if dermal fillers are right for your skin.
Fillers have become a popular way to enhance and improve the appearance of your face. It can take years off your skin while helping to volumize and recontour areas of the face that have changed due to age. Of course, the first question on your mind may be, “but is this treatment right for me?” From the office of our Glendora, CA, cosmetic team, Keshea Stevenson, Denise Matthews and America Quintana, here’s what you should know about dermal fillers.
How do dermal fillers work?
Fillers work differently than other cosmetic injectables such as Botox. Instead of stopping muscle contractions responsible for forming wrinkles as Botox does, dermal fillers are used to fill in areas of the face that have lost their volume due to age and the lack of collagen and elastin. Most dermal fillers plump up the skin with hyaluronic acid, a substance that is already naturally occurring within the body but that declines over the years.
How do you know if you’re a good candidate for dermal fillers?
One of the best ways to determine if fillers are right for you is to take a look at your nasolabial folds (the lines around your mouth). If these are rather deep, then this is a sign that fillers could be right for you. Another sign is a change in the way your cheekbones look. If they were once prominent but now they look a little shrunken, then fillers can help to volumize and reshape these deflated areas of the face.
What should I expect when I get dermal fillers?
When you come into our Glendora, CA, practice for dermal fillers, know that this treatment is customized to fit your needs and cosmetic goals. We will mark the areas that you wish to treat and then administer several small needles into the skin. These injections often contain a numbing agent within the solution to reduce any discomfort. The procedure only takes a couple of minutes and there is no recovery time. You can go back to work immediately after.
When will I see results?
While you will see an improvement in your appearance immediately after your procedure, it can take up to a month to see full results. That’s because the hyaluronic acid needs time to work its magic. Not to mention the fact that these injections also stimulate collagen production, which improves skin’s elasticity. Results last anywhere from 6 months to one year, while other fillers may last up to two years or longer.
